Here’s what to work through before placing your order, whether you’re visiting a showroom or shopping online.

1. Decide what you need and what you want to spend

Start with the essentials. How many people need a seat on an ordinary evening? Do you want to stretch out, use reclining seats or occasionally turn the room into a guest bedroom?

Write down your must-haves, then separate them from features that would simply be nice to have. This makes it easier to compare options within a budget you’re comfortable with.

Compare the price of the complete arrangement you need, including any armchair, footstool or optional extras. Ask what delivery and setup include, and whether anything about your location or access affects the service.
